so long and thanks for all the fish

Tue Apr 11, 2006, 9:04 AM
I've done my two years of time here at dA. It's been a hoot. My recent photo collection featuring the cream of Melbourne's stencil art talent made a huge splash with many of the dA people.

A huge thanks to everyone who has added me as a dA friend. It's cool to know that there are some nice people out there who like my photos.

If you're itching to see the old dA collection and some new shiny pics too, check out [link] - that's my new photoblog.

Cheers and beers to you all!

Laters,

Hey I don't mean to come on too strong, but I was browsing through the graff category, and came across a stencil by Meek (the one you have up as your featured dev. now, actually) and immediately realised that most of your gallery is comprised of shots of people's stencils around Melbourne.

Now of course all this work is in a public arena, and as such may be photographed, buffed, defaced, whatever, but what I find problematic is that you aren't making it sufficiently clear in your Deviation write-ups to people that they are just your photos and not your stencil work. I noticed at least once you corrected someone on their mistaken assumption, so I'm sure you're not intending to lead people astray, but you need to remember that people don't necessarily know the scene, they can't pick people's work by sight, or work out from the wildy differing styles of the stencils that they're obviously not by the one person.

I dunno, maybe you should be filing these under photos, not graffiti, because the assumption here is that the work you post is your own. If you strongly feel that they belong in graffiti due to what they depict, then follow the correct procedure - you may not know the artists name, but make it clear that the work is not yours.
